What To Know About Hyaluronic Acid + Which Ones To Buy

You’ve seen it on store shelves and maybe it’s in some of your favourite products but hyaluronic acid is so much more than just an ingredient. Hyaluronic Acid is kind of amazing and you need to know why. First off, it’s found naturally in the body but at the ripe old age of 18, our HA levels start to decline due to environmental factors but have no fear because topical products with high levels of HA can help rebuild that supply. Contrary to popular belief, Hyaluronic Acid in itself isn’t hydrating so don’t go swapping it in place of moisturizer. Hyaluronic has the ability to retain 1,000 times its weight in moisture resulting in plump, gorgeous skin. For me, I find my skincare tends to pill when I apply Hyaluronic Acid so my trick is to pat on an essence and while the skin is damp, go in with my hyaluronic. My go-tos are the SKII Facial Treatment Essence and the goop GOOPGLOW Flower Acids Resurfacing Toner.

To celebrate National Hyaluronic Acid Day (who knew?), I’m sharing a handful of my fave Hyaluronic Acid options at different price points.

Dermalogica Circular Hydrating Serum with Hyaluronic Acid

Dr. Barbara Sturm Hyaluronic Serum

Shop now, $410

While it might put a dent in your savings, this iconic serum is iconic for a reason. Made with a gorgeous blend of hyaluronic molecules that result in long-term hydration with a plumping effect, Dr. Sturm’s Hyaluronic Serum also contains her star ingredient: purslane which supports skin health and reduces the visible signs of irritation.

Skinceuticals HA Intensifier

Shop now, $138

One option that’s currently much-loved on my vanity is this baby from Skinceuticals. While you might think all HA serums are the same, what makes this one stand out (apart from its purple hue) is that it’s formulated with licorice root and purple rice to render the skin’s surface hydrated. If that’s not enough, it also works to improve the visible appearance of firmness, smoothness, and facial plumpness.

The Inkey List Hyaluronic Acid Hydrating Serum

Looking for hydrated, plump skin and don’t want to spend all your beans? Enter this option from the affordable skincare brand The Inkey List. Made with 2% Hyaluronic Acid and Matrixyl 3000™ which is a peptide that supports natural collagen production for an added plumping effect, this baby works hard and will definitely do you proud.

If you’re wanting to simplify your skincare routine, this combo serum from goop is the way to go. In addition to the protection that vitamin C provides, the Hyaluronic Serum component contains three molecular sizes of hyaluronic acid to hydrate skin to the enth degree.

The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 Hydrating Serum

Another affordable option that’s more than worth mentioning is this one by The Ordinary. In addition to how it retains moisture and hydrates, the addition of B5 allows for enhanced hydration giving the skin a gorgeous softness that needs to be felt to be believed!
